ASVAB Math Knowledge Practice: Algebra and Geometry Made Simple
Mathematics Knowledge is pure math. No word problems — just equations and shapes.
If you struggled with high school algebra or geometry, this section might scare you. Don't let it.
The math isn't that advanced. You just need to review the basics.
What's Covered
Algebra
- Solving equations (3x + 5 = 20)
- Inequalities (x > 5)
- Exponents and roots
- Factoring
- Basic functions
Geometry
- Area and perimeter of shapes
- Angles (complementary, supplementary, triangles)
- Pythagorean theorem
- Volume of 3D shapes
- Coordinate plane basics
Formulas You Need to Memorize
No formula sheet on test day. Know these cold:
Area:
- Rectangle: length × width
- Triangle: ½ × base × height
- Circle: π × radius²
Perimeter/Circumference:
- Rectangle: 2(length + width)
- Circle: 2 × π × radius
Volume:
- Rectangular prism: length × width × height
- Cylinder: π × radius² × height
Pythagorean Theorem: a² + b² = c²
Quick Algebra Review
Solve for x
Get x alone on one side. Whatever you do to one side, do to the other.Example: 2x + 7 = 15
- Subtract 7: 2x = 8
- Divide by 2: x = 4
FOIL Method
For multiplying binomials: (a + b)(c + d)First, Outer, Inner, Last — then combine like terms.
Factoring
Reverse of FOIL. Find two numbers that multiply to get the last term and add to get the middle term.x² + 5x + 6 = (x + 2)(x + 3)
How to Study
Do problems. Lots of problems.
Watch a video if you're stuck on a concept. But then immediately do practice problems. That's how math sticks.
